Train ride from Interlaken to Paris.

Just wondering about the train ride from Interlaken to Paris. Is it scenic, any stops and how long might it take? Thanks!

Depends. (I used to have a professor who said the answer to everything is, depends.) There are connections in 7 hours with one change of trains in Basel. There are faster connections with more changes. (Seems backwards, doesn't it.) Look up connections on the German Rail website. As for scenic, I'll leave that to others.

Brendon, As Lee mentioned, the answers to your questions will "depend" on which route you choose. The last time I took that trip, the route was from Interlaken to Lausanne on Swiss trains and then TGV from there to Paris. That's a fairly long trip, so I was more interested in "speed" than "scenic". On that trip there are between one and four changes, and the travel time will vary from about 5.5H - 8.5H, depending on which train you choose. If I were taking that trip, I'd use the train departing Interlaken Ost at 07:29, arriving Paris Lyon at 13:07 (time 5H:38M, two changes). Again as Lee mentioned, all the details are on the DB website. Happy travels!

It depends on whether you want scenery (more time), least time or fewer train changes. You won't get al lthree. The fastest trip seems to be 7hrs 33min with 3 train changes in Bern, Geneva and Lyon. The run with the fewest train changes (1 in Karlsruhe) takes 8hrs 37min. By far, the most scenic, if you have the time, is the Golden Pass train to Montreux from Interlaken Ost. It's a 3hr journey from Interlaken Ost to Montreux. First you take a regional train to Zweisimmen where you change to the Golden Pass train. This is one of Switzerland's famous scenic trains. You can even purchase a VIP seat that is actually directly on top of the engine for the best view going down the mountain to Montreux. From Montreux to Paris, it's a 4hr 40min journey with one train change in either Lausanne or Geneva. Overall, it's about an 8.5hr trip. But, very scenic.
