Train reservations & supplements

My husband & I are traveling to 4 countries in Europe over a 3 week period. If we make & pay for train seat reservations in advance and then have a change of mind about our schedule can our reservations be changed without losing the payments?

Also what is the differnce between reservations and supplements?

Thanks, Sue

Click on the Railpasses tab at the top of the page you're reading now. RS says in that section that reservations are often exchangeable or refundable in Europe. High-speed and certain other trains require reservations. The price of supplements depends upon what kind of sleeping accommodations you choose on night trains. A reservation is included in the price.

Another helpful rference is the Railpasses section at www.seat61.com.
