Train reservations in Prague

We are planning to travel from Berlin to Prague, spending a few days there and then continuing to Munich. Since we are leaving for Munich on a Sunday, DB says there are only a few direct trains into Munich, and since we have to be at our Munich hostel by about 7pm, I'd like to purchase train reservations in advance.

We'll be using a Eurail pass. From what I understand, you can't purchase reservations online independent of a ticket, so my question is, could we buy our Munich train reservations when we arrive in Prague? Is there a reputable ATM in the Prague train station where we could get Czech money?

Eurail, the company organized by the European national rail companies, sells rail passes, not tickets or reservations.

The direct rail connections from Prague to Munich are all by regional trains. There are no reservations on regional trains.

There is a non-stop bus from Prague to Nürnberg with an ICE connection to Munich, but, although German Rail will sell you tickets with reservations, it doesn't look like there is any way to get only passholder reservation from them, online, for that bus.

If you can get a Bayern-Ticket in advance, the total fare for the regional trains from Prague to Munich is about €22, less than a day of a railpass.

Well aware that Eurail only sells rail passes, thanks.

And I've done my research on point-to-point prices -- the 3-country 5-day pass is easily a better deal for us. But thanks for the info re reservations on regional trains. I'm trying to avoid the bus/train combo, because of the short connection time between the two.

Prague to Munich

German Rail seems intent on making everyone use the non-stop bus from Prague to Nürnberg. That connection is slightly faster, 5:14 vs 5:58, but costs €91 full fare or maybe-as-low-as €29 pP for a non-refundable Sparpreis ticket.

If you can get a Bayern-Ticket (€28 from the only-German Bahn Store), that route can be about €23 pP for 2, using P-P tickets in the Czech Republic.

The all regional 5:58 connection crosses the German-Czech border at Furth im Wald. Today, the only way I could get the German Rail website to show that connection was to specify a "via" at Furth im Wald.

RailEurope shows that they sell reservations-only between Prague and Munich. However, all but one of those reservations shows a two "train" connection via Nürnberg, for $35. The "train" numbers, 1050, 1052, etc, are the numbers of the bus from Prague to Nürnberg.

$35 is €25,70 at todays exchange rate. By booking in advance through the Bahn, you can get that entire ticket, fare and reservation, for €29, less than $5 more, and save the railpass for another day.

I'm planning a similar trip and have looked at the schedule from Germany to Prague and have the same bus connection in Numberg. There is only a 15 minute difference between train arrival and bus departure and it says there is a 10 min walk to the bus. Has anyone actually taken the bus that can tell me if it's doable in the 15 minutes, that's assuming the train arrives on time? Where do you catch the bus in relationship to where the train leaves you? I can image walking around for 10 minutes trying to find it.
Thanks, Fran

Fran,
The bus drops you off at the entrance of the Nurnberg Hbf. I looked up a floor plan of the train station, and it's a fairly straight shot from the entrance to the platforms (although the departures I saw left from platform 9, which seems a bit farther). My hesitation comes from not only having to get to the train in 15 minutes, but also to possibly buy reservations.

That said, my friends made the same journey this past summer, and they took the train the entire way, using their railpasses. Not sure what day of the week that was though, maybe there are more non-bus journeys on weekdays as opposed to a Sunday.
