Hi! We are going to be traveling by train to different parts of Italy the last 2 weeks in June. Is it recommended that we make train reservations before we leave the states. Or is there plenty of room on the trains and we just buy tickets as we travel? Thank you!
The ONLY reason to pre-purchase train tickets is to take advantage of discount tickets but that generally locks you into a fixed schedule with limited refund options should want to charge or miss a train. Trains rarely sell out and never on Regional trains. There are no discounts for Regional Trains.
If you tell us which cities you are visiting, we can tell you what the train options are. Some routes are only connected by regional trains, some only by fast (all-reserved) trains, and others by both.
We will be traveling from Pisa Centrale to Cinque Tera, Cinque Tera to Florence, and Florence to Sorrento. THank you!
