we will be traveling from Zurich to Munich via Austria. We will be using a swiss pass for our travel in Switzerland and will be purchasing a ticket for travel through Austria and on to Munich. There are no train changes from Zurich to Munich so I would like to purchase a seat reservation for the entire distance (3 countries). I don't seem to be able to do this from either the SBB or Bahn websites. Can I purchase the seat reservation when we get to Switzerland? The train leaves Zurich at 15:16 and arrives in Munich at 22:45, which is 4.5 hours so I would like to know that I have a seat. I can purchase a reservation for the Germany portion (3 hours) but was hoping I could get a reservation for the entire train ride. Any recommendations?

Since it's a direct route with no changes, you can buy your seat reservations in Zurich. The fee is 5.00 CHF.

Since you need a ticket for the part of the journey outside Switzerland, you can just buy the whole thing in Switzerland, at any train station. They will figure in the discount for your Swiss pass and you will get a reserved seat for the whole way. We did this once to travel from Grindelwald to Munich and I just got the tickets the day before, no problem.
