train query

My problem: Arriving Fiumicino Early Sept 6.30am after 22hours travelling heading to Milan - can I get a ticket directly from airport to Milan?- have tried via net unsuccessfully, so need to reserve the Rome to Milan train, worried about missing train but not wanting to hang around if I don't need to. Not sure how the system works, can the ticket be tranferred to a different time train and only lose the seat booking fee or is it null and void if train missed?

You will need to take the Leonard Express to the main station in Rome. About 30 minutes every thirty minutes. I think you can get the ticket transferred but will require standing in line in Rome to get it done.

You need to go to the main Rome train station as the previous poster said. My advice is don't try to buy your ticket from Rome to Milan on the web; many people have had trouble with the Trenitalia site, other vendors add a hefty fee. Just buy it in the Roma Termini station, using the automated kiosks. They work in many languages, including english and let you avoid the long lines for a clerk.

Looking at the schedule for a typical weekday in early Sept. there are trains at 7:30 and 8:30am. See http://tinyurl.com/2cq2m6 6:30am is when the plane's wheels touch the ground; I don't think you can get to the gate, take the train to Roma Termini, and make the 7:30am train. But there is one at 8:30 that you should easily make. If you wait to buy the tix in Italy, if you're there in time for the early train you can take it without having the hassle of trying to change tix purchased from abroad.

After you've collected your luggage, etc., buy your ticket from Roma Termini to Milano at the same time you buy your ticket for the Leonardo Express. Only one line to stand in and you'll know exactly which train you'll be able to catch at Termini.
