The NS has halted train traffic throughout the Northern Netherlands due to storm Poly. More than three hundred flights have been canceled at Schiphol. According to the NS, the storm is "considerably heavier than expected".

I have never seen anything quite like this. There was a tornado earlier in one of the small towns.

Thank you for the information Kateja. We are in Austria this week but heading to Amsterdam next week for a week and plan to meet up with friends in Zandvoort on the coast. I hope there isn’t too much storm damage for you all today and beyond from Poly.

EDIT: I checked with different friends in Leiden and they said their two young children are in school today and they have come through ok.

Thanks for the heads up, Kateja. We will be at Schiphol on Tuesday. I hope things have improved by then.

According to the news in the UK there have now been 3 deaths from the storm.

A Code Red warning in July is a really freak event.

My word, Kateja! What an event! Hope all is back to normal today and the storm has blown itself out before it moves east.

No worries, the storm was only very strong in the northern part of the country. I live in the south of the Netherlands near the Belgian border and we barely noticed it here.
Right now, everything is back to normal here in the south. In the northern part of the country repairs are still being carried out on train lines etc, but hopefully trains will run according to schedule tomorrow.
As far as the weather, things are looking good too. This weekend the temperatures are expected to be back up again and are even predicted to reach as high as 32 C.
