Train, plane, or automobile?

Hello, I'm new to this forum and excited to be here! My family of 4 is traveling to Europe this summer for 18 days in August. We plan to spend time in Italy, Switzerland, London, France (in that order). I'm finding it really difficult to navigate transportation and which options are best (and ideally budget friendly). I thought about getting the 15 day continuous global pass but have since learned that the pass can't be used for metro or the tube.

We will be traveling within a city, city to city, and country to country. I would take any recommendations (for any part of this trip) on a) best modes of travel - train, plane or car; b) which pass to get or not get; c) and anything else important to know. Here are the specifics:

Day 1-3 Rome (mostly walking around) (travel to Cinque Terra)
Day 3-6 Cinque Terra (staying in La Spezia with day trips to Cinque Terra) (travel to Bern)
Day 6-10: Wynigen as base. Want to check out the Interlaken and/or Grindelwald and also potentially Lucerne (travel to London)
Day 10-13: London with London Bridge area as base (travel to Clarmart)
Day 13-18: Paris with Clamart as base. In additions to day trips to Paris we are also interested to spend a day in Tours.

For London, I actually think paying as you go is the easiest for getting around the city, but if you're planning to travel by train a lot (more than one round-trip a day), the travel card may be your best bet—just be sure to check which zones you're buying for and that your activities are in those zones. This sounds like a great trip!

Omio helps travelers to identify the best connection between two destinations.

In European cities cars are seldomly meaningful. Rental cars are very expensive for cross-border travels - and not all countries are allowed to enter with some cars. On top you need to check everything for every country, e. g. driving permission, special badges, tires, kid seats, ....

Buses can sometimes be a good alternative, one large player in Europe is Flixbus.
