Train Plan help from Avignon to Monterosso Italy

I will likely take the TGV from paris to Avignon. Then rent a car and stay in Arles for 3 nights. When I leave for Italy I assume I'll want to drive back to the Avignon train station and then take a train from there to Monterros Italy. Does that make sense? Or should I take a train from Arles to Monterosso?

I'm a little unsure on what the best way to do the trains is? Also, I'll need a car rental while in Arles so I can drive to Chateauneuf Du pape, Orange, and other small towns in that region. Should I rent a car at Avignon or Arles. If Arles then I need to train from Avignon to Arles right?

Kent, thank you for your help! Do you work for Rick Steve's or do you just enjoy helping people out? You seem to come to the rescue a lot. I'll head yuor advice on the car rental parking too. I'm looking at staying at Hotel L Arlatan in Arles.

Either way, thanks for clarifying what seems simple but ain't.
