Train Pass vs point to point

Hey travelers! We have 2 people going to Austria/Germany/Switzerland in Oct. We thought about an 8 day Saver pass for 3 countries, but looks like point to point might be cheaper. I allowed for stops where we may stay multiple days but didn't see if the pass is good for "in city" or local rail and the high speed lines. Any suggestions? Our plan: Vienna, Salzburg, Halschtatt,Munich,Zurich and then the golden Pass thru Switzerland to Geneva and home.

might make it easier when you are looking up schedules if you spell "Hallstatt" the conventional way.

But you are correct about the sound. The 'st' combination in German is naturally pronounced "scht" (?t) without having to add the extra letters (I think that is called palatalization.
