train pass or use point to point tickets

My wife and I will be travelling by train with the following schedule. Two days in Paris, on to the Interlaken area in Switzerland (4 days), on to Venice (3 days) and then to Rome for 4 days. Does a 3 country pass make sense or would it be cheaper to buy P2P tickets? I know this question has been asked before but I still find it a little confusing. Is it cheaper to buy tickets ahead of time? We live in Canada Thanking you in advance for any help. Mark

My gut reaction is that it would be cheaper to go point-point, particularly if you are willing to go in 2nd class (the S'lect pass is only 1st class) and purchase some of the tickets, like Paris to Interlaken, from French Rail well in advance. You have only 3 days of pass travel and the least expensive Saver pass is for 5 days. But only you know on what trains and in what class you are willing to travel. You have to do the math. Two 3 country, 5 day Saver passes are $790, $263.33 per day if only used for three days. That's €195 per day for 2, €97 per person per day. Venice to Rome in 2nd class on an ES*AV is €74 per person, which includes the "reservation".
