Traveling to Berner Oberland this summer . What pass would be best ? Im thinking of getting the 2nd class saver flexi pass because we will be traveling from Zurich to Interlaken first and last and it seems you can only get 50% discount once past Interlaken . Am i understanding this correctly ? Will I be able to still use the 50% discount in between the scheduled travel days of the flexi pass ? thank you for any clarification of my understanding .
Yes I had one last year, and you get the 50% for lifts etc without using the day of the travel - so with the SWISS CARD you get a free train ride from Airport to destination first day, and the same on the return. You can add a few extra days of full travel - but if you chose short local train stops - under $25 - its probably cheaper to just buy the ticket that day. worked great over over Berner Oberland with the gondolas, and also the To/From Zurich airport trips.
Actually, a Swiss pass will get you into the Lauterbrunnen Valley and up to Wengen, Gimmelwald and Muerren without extra costs. Any higher, the pass provides a 50% discount. Depending on the length of your Swiss visit, point-to-point tickets may be less expensive. If you only there 2-3 days and you don't go to the Jungfrau or Shilthorn mountaintops, PTP would be less expensive. Any longer, a pass is most useful. Zurich to Interlaken is only a 2hr. journey and is not expensive.
