We have a trip planned to UK then on to Bergen, NO. Flying into Heathrow, tube to Kings Cross station and on to Newmarket by rail for a few days and then train to Edinburgh.Would a britrail pass be the best choice for this leg of our trip? Thanks for your help
Matt
Are those the only two train journeys you are planning in the UK? An off-peak single from London to Newmarket is about £30. An off-peak single from Newmarket to Edinburgh is £125, but if you can book well in advance and commit to a specific train then you can get an 'Advance' tariff fare for half that amount. How much would your railpass cost for 2 days of train travel? I can't see the BritRail prices, because I live here, but I would be surprised if it is lower than the cheapest point-to-point tickets. However, a pass gives you a lot of flexibility - no need to worry about travelling at off-peak times or catching specific trains.
Thanks for the advice Kevin, it is much appreciated. Matt
