We are traveling through Italy mid to late November and have 4 days in Rome, 2 in Sorrento and after that we are thinking of traveling over to Bari to spend a couple of days. Since our hotel in Rome is located near most of the sites we felt a car was unnecessary. After Rome we would take the train to our hotel in Sorrento and also to Pompeii. Since we want to add on Bari and will need to go back to Rome for our outbound flight should we: 1.) do it all by train or 2.) rent a car when we leave Rome or
3.) rent a car when we leave Sorrento and drive to Bari, return it to Sorrento and take the train back to Rome or ???
