We are traveling from Venice to Lake Como ( 2 nights), and then would like to go through Portafino and then to Cinque Terra to stay for 2 nights before exploring Tuscany . We were planning to rent a car outside of Venice and driving, however, would it be easier to take the train and rent a car after Cinque Terra stay?

I have done this drive a few times and it can be challenging...especially parking in CT....what does your hotel suggest? I love the drive around Lake Como and if you take a train there you miss that beautiful drive. Check out the train staion in LaSpezia and see if there is an overnite car park there where you can leave the car. It is probably cheaper than re-renting your car. I have also left my car in Allessandria and taken the train to CT but only for a day trip as I had a hotel and left my car there.
