train or plane- Venice to Naples

My husband and I are planning a trip to Italy next September. We will fly into Venice, and after 4 nights will need to be in Naples. Would you suggest flying or taking the train between the two cities. Not sure if after taking the extra time to get to the out of the way airport the smaller airlines fly out of, and getting to the airport the normal 1 hr. early that the plane would be much faster? Plus I know you really have to watch the luggage requirements. We would both only have carry-ons, but might possibly go over the weight restrictions. Also, I read the luggage restrictions on these smaller airlines, but still am not sure if I can take my carry-on plus a purse, and if my husband can take a carry-on plus a camera case? I would appreciate any ideas or suggestions. Thanks for any help.

That could be a tough decision. I would much rather ride the train if possible, but in this case the fastest train takes about 5.25 hours while EasyJet flies directly from VCE to NAP in an hour. I might be tempted for the flight on this one.

easyJet has a size limit but no weight limit for carry-on bags. However, you are limited to one piece--period--not a carry-on bag plus a personal item. If you can't squeeze your purse and camera case into your carry-on bags, you will need to check the bags.

Alitalia flies Venice-Naples. Their carry-on rules may be different.

If you want to both save the cost of a night in a hotel and have more daylight hours for sightseeing, take the direct Venice-Naples night train. If you want to sit back and relax while watching the scenery go by, take a daytime train. Either way you would avoid the airport hassle while reducing your carbon footprint.

If the purpose of your trip is to see Venice and Naples you should fly. If it is to see Italy you should take the train.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their help. I know it's too far out to see the actual train schedules for our trip, but just checking them for the next few months for the Venice-Naples trip they seem quite a bit more expensive than flying. I think that we might spend 3 nights in Venice, and then on the 4th night get a hotel by the airport, because ryanair has a pretty early flight to naples that we would probably want to catch. Thanks again for your help. robin

Are you sure you meant Ryanair? Their site doesn't show any flights into Naples from any airport.

Sorry, You're right, I meant EasyJet. They have two flights, one fairly early, and the other flight is much later than I want, since once we get to Naples we have to then travel on to Possitano. Thanks again.
