We only have a few days in Munich and Prague and we are two adults with two college kids. The flights seem long and expensive, as well as the trains seem long and expensive. Any advice or experience from anyone one this travel?
There are train/bus connections shown on the German Rail website. They run about every two hour, take 5 hours, and start for as little as €29 if you purchase long enough in advance (3-92 days). That fare includes an ICE to Nuernberg and an intercity bus run by the Bahn to Prague. If you are willing to spend 6 hours, there are four direct and one change, regional train connections a day to Prague via Schwandorf, crossing the border at Furth im Wald. For four adults, you can purchase a Bayern-Boehmen ticket in Munich which will cover the regional train to Pilsen for all four of you for €34. Once in the Czech Republic, you can buy tickets, either from the conductor or in Pilsen, for Pilsen to Prague for about €6 per person.
