Lilly, Is there any possibility of using open-jaw flights? This would make the route planning a lot simpler and more efficient. You could (for example), start your trip in England and work towards Rome (or vice versa). The majority of travel between cities can be done by fast trains (ie: TGV in France), but there may be a few routes that would be better by budget airline. You won't be able to work that out until you have the route more-or-less finalized. The order of visits in the above list is somewhat "inefficient" and will have a cost both in travel time and travel funds. Good luck!

You should probably be a little more precise. Rome, Paris, and Amsterdam are not counties. Where in Spain? Where in Switzerland? Second, you are covering a huge amount of territory and for these distances you most likely will need to fly. By the time you add in travel to/from the airport, time in checkin, waiting, transit, etc. you will spent at least a couple days or maybe three just in airports. Also, your schedule should have made use of open jaw tickets but assume your tickets are purchased. My rule is any travel distance via train that is longer than five or six hours, I will consider air. After six hours, a flight is quicker.

Sorry...it should have read, Italy, France and so on..... and yes, I know Rome, Paris and Amsterdam are not countries lol. Thank you so much for your reply.. We have 30 days in Europe and want to see so much lol.... One thing for sure, we fly in and out of Rome (to visit family) and have friends in England/Notthingham that we would also love to visit. However, I want to stay in France/Paris for 3-4 days, on this trip. I guses its back to the drawing board. Thanks again :)

Just for a reference, Amsterdam to Switzerland says 8 hrs by car (with no traffic) and is usually scheduled about the same for the train. It could easily take longer if there are weather delays or other unforeseen issues. I don't see it taking any shorter than a full day or night of travel just between those two cities. Getting to the airport and hopping a flight can be just as long. My advice to is to take a closer look at how far apart the cities really are.

You will need a mix of train and plane. Rome to Spain needs to be by air and Spain to Paris also by air. Paris to England is by Eurostar (Chunnel train) and the return to Amsterdam can be the same though it is a longer ride. Amsterdam to Swiss to Rome can be done by train if you are mostly interested in the scenary. But it is a very inneficient way to get there. I'd consider skipping Swiss and using that time either in Italy (Florence say) or stretch your time in the other places. Then you'd fly from Amsterdam to Rome.
