Train or Car from Fussen to Chur

Planning a trip in December and need to get from Fussen Germany to Chur Switzerland.

I'm wondering whether we should take the train back to Munich and then on to Chur (about 4 hours) or hire a car to save 2 hours.

NOTE: I'm travelling with my 83 year old aunt and thinking of her comfort.

Are you returning the car to Germany? There is a big international drop fee to drop a car in another country. They cannot rent the car again until it has been transported back to the country where its license plates were issued, and you have to pay for that. Also, you will need to buy a Swiss vignette for the car when you enter Switzerland to use the motorways. Cost is 40 CHF.

Train could be pretty painless if you can handle your aunts luggage. Trains are very comfortable, but you will have to change trains a few times. You do not have to go all the way back to Munich. You can change trains at Buchloe, then at St Margrethen to get to Chur.

Oh sorry. I meant to say we would hire a driver. The price is high, but I'm trying to give my aunt all her options.

I doubt the idea is very realistic. If it is possible, the price will be incredibly expensive because the driver ( if one can be found) would have to not only have their licenses and permits for Germany, but also be licensed as a public carrier in Switzerland. And after the 2+ hours driving to Switzerland, they then would need to drive back to Germany—most likely with no paying passengers. For the driver, that’s at least a 5-hour commitment.
