I have been looking for train or bus schedules and prices from Sarajevo, Bosnia to Pecs Hungary on June 9th....and then Pecs to Budapest, Hungary on the 12th. Haven't found any reliable information as of this writing. Can anyone please help with websites to go to, etc?? And, which might be the better way to go. Thanks, Bonnie
Working from www.bahn.de, you can get there on trains, but you will have to spend a night in Zagreb. Sarajevo bus site does not list any buses to Hungary. Pecs to Budapest is not a problem, direct trains every 2 hours, 3 hour trip.

People didn't move around in this part of Europe as they did in the west in the last 50 years so the rail infrastructure doesn't compare to the west. Or maybe it was just a lack of the economic means to build the infrastructure. Probably a little bit of both. The Hungarian railway website is http://www.mav.hu/english/ and its actually pretty decent for research. To take a train to Pecs from Sarajevo its going to be a pretty "interesting" trip and you are going to spend 10 to 12 hours on trains. For about $300 you can get a flight from Sarajevo to Budapest with a change in Istanbul. I would try and arrange a 2 day layover in Istanbul and turn lemons into lemonade or would that be Chickpeas into Humus? If it really is Pecs you are trying to get to its about 3 hours by train from Budapest. You might also look and see if you can find bus service from Sarajevo to Pecs. The drive is about 5 hours. Sorry I don't know of a bus line that actually makes this run. But there might be one. You need a travel agent in Sarajevo or Pecs.
You may have more success posting this question on the Thorntree forum (lonely planet website). If not, look for a major junction somewhere between the two places and try bus and train to see if a combination will work better.
