Does anyone know if it is possible to travel the coast of northern Spain by train (for instance between Coruna and Bilbao)? On the map it appears that there is a rail line along or near the coast but Renfe routes do not use it. On Google I found a "holiday" train but not a general transport train. Are there small regional trains? Has anyone traveled this route by bus?

There is a luxury tourist train called El Transcantabrico but there are also local trains. The companies involved are Euskotren for services just within the Basque region and FEVE for the rest of the coast. You can find them at http://www.euskotren.es/ and http://www.feve.es, but the sites are only available in Spanish (or Basque for Euskotren).
