Train or boat from Italy to Spain?

We will be traveling from Florence to Barcelona. Any suggestions on either taking a train or a ship?

Train is 18 to 22 hrs. You can fly on Meridiana airline for about $150 one way, will save a lot of time. I don't know anything about ship but would take a long time at 20 or 30 mph.

There is a ferry from Livorno (1.5hrs from Florence) to Barcelona. It departs a few times a week at 23:30 and takes 20.5hrs. Cost for an inside berth is 149Euro.

Boat and train will both take about the same amount of time -- 1 day.

For my personal enjoyment, I would take the train and make an event of it. City hop accross the south of France -- stop in Genoa, Monaco, Nice... etc. That will break up a long ride, and make the ride a destination in itself.

Hi, I will be joining the Cosmos tour(also covers Paris for less than 2 full days) that ends in Rome and I already booked the Ryanair to fly back into Paris again for the last 3 nights before coming home. I want to make the best out of that few nights there. Thought of staying in the countryside or etc as my tour already covers the central. But not too far to central so that i could still go for the seine cruise and a bike tour. do they hv bike tour at the countryside? i nd advise on the cheap countryside b&b stay and things to do there. thanks.
