train options from Rothenburg to Munich

I will be traveling from Rothenburg to Munich by way of a day stop in Nuremburg. Would a Bayern Ticket cover all of my train travel for that day? And if so, how will I know which trains are regional trains?

The fares for regional trains from Rothenburg to Nürnberg will not show up on the Bahn site because they are within the boundary of the Nürnberg metro district, VGN, and Bahn does not sell them. You can get more info from www.vgn.de.

Travel from Rothenburg to Nürnberg is a "10+T" tariff. A single trip ticket costs €8,60 per person. You can buy a day ticket (Tageskarte) for 10+T for up to 2 adults, up to 6 people total, for €14. That will give you unlimited travel in the VGN for the day or all weekend if you buy it on Sat.

If you are only stopping a short time in Nürnberg and then going on to Munich the same day, then a Bayern-Ticket will work all the way from RodT. There are a lot of ICEs that go on the new high speed section from Nürnberg to Munich, but some REs also go on the same tracks.

"how will I know which trains are regional trains?"

Look up the schedule on the Bahn site. If it says RB, RE, or IRE it is a regional train. If it says ICE, IC, or EC, it is not.

S-Bahns are also considered regional trains.

There are some private train companies in Bavaria (BOB, ALX). They are usually considered regional trains. They are shown on the Bayern-Ticket description on www.bayern-takt.de.

The schedules (white or yellow) posted in the stations will also show the train type (i.e., RE, IC, etc).
