train options from Edinburgh to Paris

We will be in Edinburgh, Scotland, in April 2009 and need to get to Paris. Can I buy a through ticket for the entire trip in Edinburgh? Would you recommend connecting to the EuroStar or taking a ferry, from Dover to Calais, for instance, and then taking a train from there? We would like to only use one day for the trip.

If I were doing this by train, I would take the Caledonian Sleeper from Edinburgh to London. Booked well in advance, Bargain Berths can cost as little as £19. Then I would take the Eurostar to Paris. Book the Eurostar at www.eurostar.com.

Or you could take a day train from Edinburgh to London in under five hours and the Eurostar from there to Paris. Again, book separately. Booked 60-90 days in advance at www.nationalexpresseastcoast.com, you can get cheap fares for Edinburgh-London day trains.

Or you could fly easyJet directly from Edinburgh to Paris CDG.

I recommend www.qjump.com for purchasing British rail tickets. As other guy suggested, book well in advance. The train from Edinburgh arrives at Kings Cross and St Pancras from where the Eurostar departs is across the road. Allow an hour between arrival and departure in London.

Jim,

As Tim suggested, EasyJet would be your easiest and quickest option for that trip. Depending on when you book and which flight you select, I saw prices as low as £37.99 on that route, and one nice feature is that you'll be landing right at CDG!

Happy travels!
