What exactly is involved to travel by train from Paris to Southampton? Can one travel directly between the two, or must you connect via London? How much time is involved, and approximately how much does it cost? Much thanks for any info!

Paul, AFAIK, you'll need to connect in London. One route would be EuroStar from Paris Gare du Nord to London St. Pancras, and then Tube to London Waterloo. Finally, travel from London Waterloo to Southampton Central (you didn't say which station you'd prefer, so I used that for example). Total travel time will be ~4H:30M, depending on which train you choose. Cheers!
