Train Information Needed

After much research, I found I can save money by buying point to point tickets for my upcoming trip to Europe. Question is if you order these tickets from Bahn.de on the internet what happens if you are unable to make a specific train that you have a ticket for. Can you use that ticket on the next train or do you have to do something else to be able to use that ticket? First time with trains in Europe so I am going to have more questions before this is over.

"what happens if you are unable to make a specific train that you have a ticket for"

It depends on what kind of ticket. If you buy a full fare ticket from the Bahn (they'll probably mail it) then it will not specify a train number and time. It is good on any train over the time period specified. If you can't make the specified train, you can use it on the next one. Reservations, however, are not transferrable.

But you really don't have to buy full fare tickets online. You can get them at the station (same price). I have been on trains that were fully occupied, but they still let you on, and most seats were not reserved, so if you get a reservation at the time you purchase the ticket, you will have a seat.

However, if you are looking at the "Saving fare" tickets, these are ONLY for a specific train (date, time, and number), and if you miss it, you lose the ticket.
