My husband & I are flying into Vienna in August. Is there a train that goes from the airport to the city center? Or is there a better option? We arrive at 11:30 a.m. (assuming flight is on time, etc) on a Sunday. We anticipate that after clearing customs & getting our bearings, we would leave the airport early afternoon. We plan on using public transportation for our 10 days in Austria & Germany, so we will not have a car.

Either regular OBB trains (inexpensive) or City-Airport-Train (more expensive) will
get you from the airport to downtown, although it depends on where you're going
as to how close you'll get.
Note that the Hauptbahnhof and Westbahnhof are not really that close to the Inner
Stadt (city center). Wien Mitte is probably closer.

Check onine - there's also a bus that you can take. I stayed near St. Stephen's Cathedral 3 years ago and there was a bus that stopped about 3 blocks away that went straight to the airport.

Do provide the name of your hotel, so people can help you make the best choice based on your location.
We used the CAT (City Airport Train) to get to the airport from our Vienna apartment because we were near the Mitte station. It was quick and easy, though more expensive than other trains.

Many thanks for all of the info. We have not booked a hotel yet. We wanted a bit more info on transport from the airport to the city before we choose a place, depending on train &/or bus stops.

In 2018 we pre booked a taxi (I think we did so directly via the Austrian Air website). As there were 3 of us it was a very affordable option, and even though we spent the remainder of our time in Vienna traveling by subway or on foot, after a long overnight flight it was so nice to be able to go directly to our B&B and not have to contend with public transit immediately. So you might consider that option.

We used a car service from Vienna to the airport in 2019. Cost €50- but as Vienna was our last stop we enjoyed the convenience. We used Blacklane.

The CAT is very seriously overpriced. The S-Bahn runs to Vienna Mitte like the CAT but is very slow. Unless you are staying near Mitte station the best choice is to get a Railjet to Vienna Hauptbahnhof (same price as the S-Bahn but much faster) and then U-Bahn or tram to your hotel.
