Train from Venice to the Port of Civitavecchia

Hello, We are staying in Venice for three days prior to cruising from Civitavecchia.
I am considering making train reservations for the morning of the afternoon that we have to meet the ship. I have checked Trenetalia and they do not appear to have a departure that arrives early enough in Civitavecchia. Rail Europe has several departures but I have read that it is ill advised to schedule with Rail Europe. Does anyone have thoughts or suggestions about this dilemma? Thank you very much for your help! This is our first trip to Italy and the Med. So, I am trying to cross all the "t's" and dot all the "i's"!

First, I doubt if there is a direct train to Civit.... and if there is it would be so round about route which may explain why you cannot find a decent schedule. I think you can easily do it. Take a high speed from Venice to Rome - 3.5 hours. Get off and walk to the last platform on your left (as your face the front of the station) and follow it to the Civit,, platform 24, 25 or 25,26. It is a very long walk to this platform and you will think you have walk half way back to Venice. There are three to four trains an hour to Civit. It is a commuter run with times from 45 mins to 1:15 depending on the specific train. Once there you will have a ten minute walk to the port entrance probably can see your ship from the station and shuttle bus will take you from the port entrance to the check in for your ship. R Europe is not a good source for either tickets or schedules since they only show the schedules for the routes that they sell tickets for. Use Trenitalia to Rome. PS Just checked the Trenitalia site and found 6:27, 7:39, and 8:27 departures that you puts in Rome at 9:55,11:13, & 12:13. Add two hours max to find the Civit train, walk, etc. and you could be in Civit by 11:55, 1:13, 2:13. Plenty of time to catch your ship.

One problem with the train websites is that you may be looking too far ahead. www.trenitalia.com s their schedules in mid-June and mid-December. If you are looking past May, you may not see much of the schedule. Simply look out 2-3 weeks from now on the day of the week that you will be traveling. There are about 14 high-speeds that run between Venice and Rome each day. You'll need to get to Rome to change trains to go west to Civitavecchia. Looking at the train schedule, the train journey time is 5.5hrs. Thus, you have about 5 runs in the early morning that can get you Civitavecchia by about 2:00pm.
