Train from Venice to Reutte

Never ventured out of Italy now my husband has suggested taking a train from Venice to Reutte Austria. Is this a difficult trip, about how many hours?

You can find the schedule on the German Rail website. I think that one of the four daily ECs to Munich will work best. One starts in Venice; the other three start in Verona or stop there on their way. Going all the way to Munich then to Reutte will probably be the easiest, but you can also get off in Innsbruck and go over the mountains at Seefeld to Mittenwald to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, then take the Ausserfernbahn to Reutte.

The train into Reutte (we've done it from Seefeld) is a real milk run, running across fields and and stopping wherever two cowpats are found together.

That's why I suggested it might be easier via Munich. Of course, from Munich, unless you go to Fuessen and take the bus to Reutte, you'll have to go to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, then up the same Ausserfernbahn to Reutte (or train to Kempten, then train to Reutte). I took the Ausserfernbahn from Pfronten to Garmisch in 2002, and I don't remember it being all that tedious. Then in 2009, I took the train from Seefeld to Reutte (then to Pfronten). It also wasn't all that tedious, but there was an SEV from GaP to Reutte. I don't remember a lot of stops. Maybe there were other SEV to the intermediate stops.

From the German Rail website, you can get Europa-Spezial Fares starting at €39 pP from Venice or Verona. This can be to any place in Germany, as long as travel after the EC from Italy is entirely in Germany, by rail. In other words, for the same fare, you can go from Italy to Munich to Fuessen, but the bus to Reutte will be extra. Or, you could go from Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, but the leg from GaP to Reutte would be extra. Or you could go to Munich to Kempten to Pfronten, but if you wanted to go to Reutte, Pfronten to Reutte would be extra. Hey, you want to use a German Rail discount ticket to go to Austria. You can't expect everything. From Austrian Rail, you can probably find the same fares for the EC to Innsbruck or Salzburg, but Innsbruck to Reutte via Seefeld and Garmisch-Partenkirchen would not be included in the fare. On the other end, one of the four ECs starts in Venice, and the Europa-Special fare would include the part from Venice to Verona. The other three ECs only start at or go through Verona. Venice to Verona would not be included in the fare.
