Train from venice to naples

I'm trying to book a train from Venice to Naples on June 1st, I've spent about three days trying to get through trenitalia's site with no luck. No matter who I call the cards are always denied. I read here and everyone says "book when you get there" but the discounted online fares are about $300 total for the three of us traveling. It seems like buying tickets there would be more expensive. Anyone have a better website to use?

This is the only way anyone here has figured out how to get the Trenitalia site to accept your US credit card

Brett: You have to do more than just register with Trenitalia. As Larry explains, in the link I provided: "There is a way to use your Visa card to purchase train tickets on www.trenitalia.com. First, you must be registered on www.trenitalia.com. Second, YOU MUST BE REGISTERED on the Verified by Visa site. Trenitalia is a participant in the Verified by Visa program."Larry lays out on the details in the link. But 95% of people here don't bother, they either can't jump through the Visa hoops or just give up and buy point to point tickets once they get in country, your US credit card will work once you get to Italy.

I've registered with visa twice, and tried my amex... Are there any discounts buying them in Italy?

Hi Brett--The difficulty is probably the trenitalia site but I've also found this year that the fraud alert departments of my credit cards are much more nervous than before. I had to let them know that I wanted to make several purchases internationally before purchasing so that the fraud alert departments would allow the purchases to go through.
Also if you have several train tickets to buy (and if you feel the $50 is worth it,) Euraide will purchase the tickets at the same price as in Europe with a $50 handling charge. I had several tickets to purchase for 6 of us so the $50--divided by 6--was worth it to me!
