1030 in the morning, I don't want to spend the night before in Milan but it look like I might have to.

The first train in the morning to Milan arrives at 08:25. Then, you take a bus to MXP which could take just over an hour in morning traffic. That puts you at MXP at about 9:30am-9:45am at the earliest. 45 minutes to get through security is quite risky.
