We are getting off our cruise ship in Venice on May 17/2014
we need to take a train back to Civitavecchia where our car is left when we boarded.
wondering if we need to book a train ahead of time or will we be able to depart on the Saturday and catch the train no problem...I cant seem to book on the trenitalia web site...any help?

You best bet will be high speed train from Venice to Rome and then a regional to Civit. You may be a little early for May booking. By booking a head you should be able to get a discounted ticket to Rome. Buy the regional ticket to Civit either in Venice or in Rome. It is a commuter run to Civit with two to three trains an hour on the weekend.
