My husband and I need to travel from Venice to Tirano to catch the 2:00 Bernina Express to Chur. Is there a train that can accomodate this or do you have to take the bus from Lugano?

Best way is a fast train from Venice to Milan 2 hours 45 minutes) and then the regional train to Tirano. That one takes 2.5 hours, soyou are looking at a very early start from Venice.
