Train from Tuscany to Rome

Hello, I am staying in Radocondoli, Tuscany for a week with a rental car. I will be picking it up in Venice. At the end of that week, I need to get to Rome. I thought I could drop off the auto in Sienna or Florence and take the train to Rome instead of driving to Rome.
Anyone know if Sienna is a good drop off location for an auto rental? How about train connections to Rome? Or do I have to go to Florence to drop off and get the train? Thx so much.

Since you have a car and you are in Radicondoli, I wouldn't bother to drive all the way to Florence to go to Rome. That would be going north to come back south. The best is to drive to Rome, of course. But if you are scared of the big city, the best alternatives are: 1. If you take the Coastal route (SS 1 - Aurelia). Return the car at Fiumicino airport. Then take the train into Rome. 2. If you take the interior route (A-1 - Autostrada del Sole). Return the car in Orvieto and take the train into Rome. Make sure that your rental company has an office in Orvieto in the latter case. Returning the car at Fiumicino is very easy. Just like returning at any airport location in the US. The rental companies are in one of the big parking structures across from the terminals.

We just dropped a car last week at the airport and could not have been easier. Clear signs for the car rentals. If you drop in a small town make sure you know the hours when the rental company is open. Frequently they are closed on Sunday and by later PM. No way to drop it without seeing a live person.

Chiusi is another drop-off location with good train connections to Rome, but as with Orvieto make sure your rental company has an office in Chiusi and that its hours match your schedule.
