train from switzerland to france

I will be traveling in Switzerland for 4 nights- going from Meersburg, Germany in August to Lucern- 2 nights and then on to Murren - 2 nights. We will then be taking a train from Interlaken to Avignon, France via Bern and Geneva. Will it be worth it to buy two Swiss half fare cards (30 days) for 99 CHF? We plan on gong on a boat and a number of cable cars or funiculars. Do I need to make train reservations from Interlaken to Avignon ahead? We will be going 2nd class but the reservation discount only says half fare card 1/2/3 and I'm not sure if that means the 30 day card?? I know it only covers Switzerland and not France.
Question_ Is the 1/2 fare -30 day card worth it for 4 days?
Will it give me a discount from Interlaken to Avignon?
Thanks,
Vicki

To determine if a half fare card will be a good choice, you need to do a cost comparison with the price of regular point-to-point tickets. You can find fares for your routes on the Swiss Rail site.

A half fare card will not help you cover any of the route to Avignon beyond the Swiss border.

Depending upon your departure time, your route from Interlaken to Avignon could include a leg on a TGV for which a seat reservation is required. If you buy your ticket when you get to Switzerland, you should be fine. The seat reservation comes with the ticket and is included in the fare.

RS has a guide in his bk to see if it is worth it. I did this last yr and made my decision easily.
