Hi will be staying in Lausanne for 5 days in Sept and want to visit Croatia - not sure about trains - the only one i can find is Zurich to Zegreb. Does this seem like our only option? Thanks Alex

You can fly from Zurich to Zagreb in 4 hours for about $230 each way. www.germanwings.com.

I can see a few train runs on www.sbb.ch the Swiss train site. The journey will take 15-17hrs with several train changes. One run goes through Venice/Ljubljana and others via Innsbruck or Munich. There is a night train from Munich to Zagreb. You can depart Lausanne at 16:20 and board the night train in Munich at about 23:00, depart Munich at 23:45 and arrive in Zagreb at 08:34 the next morning. Not too bad if you really want the train. I like the GermanWings option mentioned above.

Do check out options using a bus. Generally I find these faster when crossing multiple borders since the trains have to change engines and crews, etc.
