Does anyone have any advice on taking the train from St. Goar into Rothenberg Ob Der Tauber and then Rothenberg into Berchtesgaden? Each trip looks like it involves 4-5 changes. Is there a way to do it with less changes? I'll be travelling with kids.

Most trips between these towns - 8 of the 13 trips per day that you'll find at www.bahn.de - involve 3 changes - typically in Mainz, Würzburg and Steinach. The only one that turns up 5 changes leaves at 23:20. See Rick's packing tips for packing to get around easily.
