Train from Split Croatia to Budapest Hungary

Hello, I'm travelling from Split to Budapest and I know there's a night train which departs twice a week.

I just can't find a site to book it. Any advice? Thank you in advance.

It's very difficult to go from Split to Budapest on the ground. It's very mountainous between those two cities.

Check to see if Air Croatia is flying that route when you're wanting to go.

Thank you, I did check and Air Croatia doesn't fly to Budapest. Other flights are all day ordeals, at least two stops.

Thanks so much,

Anne

Through the end of August, the night train runs Mon, Wed, Sat northbound according to online schedules and it should be no problem to buy the train ticket at a train station or a travel agency anywhere in Croatia. For more flight searches, try www.skyscanner.com. Separate, direct trains from Spit to Zagreb and Zagreb to Budapest can be done in just 6 - 7 hours each, if you have time to stop and see Zagreb on this route.

Annie, if you want to make a reservation for
the sleeper bunks on a Croatian night train,
it might not be possible in advance.

I wanted one from Munich to Zagreb, and even with
the help of a call to the Rail Europe folks, they
couldn't get one either...

I ended up waiting until the delayed train pulled
into Munich after midnight, and paid the conductor
in that car.

Also, when my train was about to leave Slovenia
and enter Croatia,(very wee small hours of the morning)
there was a passport inspection
on the Slovenian side of the border, then the
train rolled ahead a few hundred yards, and then the
Croatian passport inspection team came on board...

I do know that there is an airport bus from
Split out to the Split airport...several other
vendors and taxi drivers were at the same bus stop,
attempting to get customers, so be aware of which
one you want.
