Train from Salzburg to Rome on Christmas Day

We are planning a trip that would take us from Salzburg to Rome on Christmas Day. Does anyone know if the trains will be running on Christmas Day along this route?

Hugh - It's a long journey by train (about 9 hrs with changes). Unless you break the journey it would be too long.

If you route your journey via Rosenheim and Verona, the ride through the Brenner pass is very scenic, is. Salzburg Rosenheim Verona Rome.

There is a nice night train leaving Salzburg at 22:02 and arriving in Rome at 9:22 the next morning. Both Couchettes and sleepers are available.

If you want to go overnight, there are 3 possibilities, no one is direct.

1. Salzburg-Innsbruck-Roma (on Saturdays Salzburg-Kufstein-Roma).

ICE 766 to Innsbruck (Saturday OEC 660 to Kufstein)

EN 287 to Roma Tiburtina

2. Salzburg-Villach-Roma

IC 796 to Villach

EN 235 to Roma Termini

3. Salzburg-Venezia Mestre-Roma

EN 237 to Venezia Mestre (very late departure in Salzburg)

ES 9465 to Roma Termini

We have taken that journey and it is lovely, if long. No reason the trains would not run Xmas Day as far as I know. Prepare yourselves for limited services although the Austrian trains usually have menu service to your seat. Have a reservation for dinner when you get to Rome or you might not get dinner of Xmas night,

Is there any way you could rearrange your route to fly from Munich to Rome instead? The train takes so long...
