We need to get to Corciano from Rome. Is there a train stop near there or should we stop at the closest "bigger town" , rent a car and drive there?
One of your questions: We need to get to Corciano from Rome. Is there a train stop near there?Answer: Use this website to answer that question: http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtmlIf it doesn't come up with a train schedule, it usually means there's no rail service to where you want to go.
Let the travel be part of the vacation. Take the train and then the bus, making you free of the car and it's various drawbacks.
This is a tough one. There does not appear to be a train station in Corciano. The closest is Ellera. It looks to be about 6km apart. I can't locate a bus service. If you have a hotel or place to stay selected, you might want to ask them for directions.
Melinda,
As Larry mentioned, the closest rail station appears to be Ellera. The quickest trip I was able to find leaves Roma Tiburtina at 06:35, arriving Ellera-Corciano at 09:20 (one change at Terontola-Cortona).
From the station in Ellera, I believe there's Bus service to Corciano, but my Italian skills are "limited" so I'm still trying to decipher the information. You might have a look at www.apmperugia.it/canale.asp for details. The web site indicates the "K" route travels to Corciano, and there appears to be numerous trips during the day.
My experience has been that there will probably be a Bus scheduled to leave for Corciano shortly after the train arrives. The "K" route schedule indicates that the trip from Ellera to Corciano is only about 14 minutes. I'm sure there will be a Tabacchio or ticket office in the the Ellera station for you to purchase a ticket for the Bus. DON'T forget to validate!!!
Happy travels!
