Train from Rome to Pisa

My mom, sister-in-law and I are planning on doing a day trip from Rome to visit Pisa and Florence. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what would be the best way from the Pisa train station to go see the Leaning Tower?

If you plan to visit both Pisa and Florence on the same day, you'll spend a lot of the day on the train and won't have much time to enjoy Florence, even if you leave Rome early in the morning.

If you leave Rome at 06:10, you'll arrive in Pisa at 08:57.

It takes a little over an hour for the train ride from Pisa to Florence.

It's your decision, of course; but IMO it would be worth skipping Pisa to have a whole day in Florence rather than just an afternoon.
