What is the easiest way to go to the port from central Rome?
Train. 3 an hour and takes from 45 mins to 1 :15 depending on train. Cost about $8 to $15 depending on train.
Thank you.
I am assuming you are arriving via a cruise. We went last year and I found this post on a cruise board before leaving. It might be helpful :-)
Oh...another important thing: Be off the ship asap so you can get the 8:02 train into Rome. The port has a free shuttle and you will see it parked right next to the ship's shuttle busses. We used the ship's shuttle but you can buy the ship's shuttle tickets and then turn them back in for a refund if you don't use them on RCI. Once you've gotten off the shuttle, the train station is ahead about 3 or 4 blocks and on the left.
The train is the best way. Different classes of trains run from Rome Termini out to Civitavecchia hence the difference in fares noted by Frank above. The more expensive trains are faster and make fewer stops. Same tracks.
If you are returning to Civitavecchia on the ship, buy a roundtrip train ticket on a Regionale train. No seat reservations permitted. When you return, you head straight for the train. Note that you cannot use that ticket on a higher-class train.
If you will be docking at another Italian port such as Florence (Livorno), buy your roundtrip ticket in Rome. The only trains running from Livorno to Florence are Regionale trains. Just head for the train and not the train station. The "open ticket" is good for 60 days.
Larry, from her other post it appears that she is flying into Rome that day.
Thanks Frank. I see it the connection now.
