Train from Paris to Lusanne, Montruex, Gruyers and Locarno

We are planning to take the TGV train from Paris to Lusanne 4.5. hours. Train stops in Lusanne, does the TGV go onto Montruex? We are planning to stay 1 night in Montruex, from the train station can we walk to Chateau de Chillion Castle ? Next stop is Gruyeres, again do we get on the TGV train. When we live Gruyers to Locarno we are going on Centovalli Railway. Any transportation ideas greatly appreciated. Our family is 3 adults and 2 kids under 16 and 2 under 18... One other thing when we leave Locarno we will take a train to Zurich.

Michael thanks for your information. So, will not be staying on the TGV train all the way to Lusanne, we will have to get off and transfer to a Swiss Rail? TGV shows that we will arrive in Geneve and transfer, does this sound right? Is 15min to 20 min enough time for 7 people to transfer? Should and do we need to get a Swiss Pass? We arrive in Paris 6 days before we leave for Switzerland . Do we need to buy tickets for TGV train before we leave California? Ticket are $146 to $156. Have you ever traveled on the Centovalli Railway?
Thank you.

From Lusanne you transfer to a Swiss Rail inter-city train to Montruex. There are trains every fifteen minutes or so, travel time is 20-30 minutes. No advance reservations required simply purchase tickets at the station or use you Swiss Pass. Click the "railpasses" tab above for more details. Check schedules at the Swiss Rail site: http://rail.ch At the castle you have the option of walking, boat, bus or train back to Montreax. There are trains every hour to Gruyere with a change in Montbovon. The Swiss Rail site will list all your options for Locarno to Zurich.

There are TGV trains that go direct to Lusanne, and different trains which go direct to Geneva. Lusanne is closer to Montreax than Geneva so try and book a direct train at TGV-Europe.com...tell the site that you live in the UK so that you can print your tickets out at home. The sooner you book the cheaper it will be....90 days allowed. 15 minutes should be more than enough time to transfer, but the trains run frequently so if you miss your first connection you can take the next one about 30 minutes later. For most folks some sort of Swiss Pass will save you money especially with children. Check the "railpasses" tab above for a complete explanation...there are lots of different choices.

We have walked from Chateau de Chillon back to Montreux. It is a nice walk on the lakeside pedestrian path. The Centovalli Railway connects Domodossola, in Italy, with Locarno. So you will need to make your way from Montreux or wherever you are staying on th elake down to Domodossola, via Martigny and Brig. http://www.centovalli.ch/centovalli/home/home.php

Thank you. I did not see it was direct from Lusanne when on went on TGV website. I will look again on website. Thank you Lola. How long did you spend at Chateau De Chillon? Do you have a recommendation for a Hotel in Montreux? Thank you for the information about Domodossola, I do have this information and now I fell better knowing it is a good way to travel to Locarno.
Did you enjoy the Centovalli Railway?

You're welcome Nancy. If it works better for you to take a TGV train to Geneva, it's not the end of the world. From Geneva there are also direct trains to Montreax.
