Travel from Paris - Hannover

In October I will be traveling from Paris to Hannover, Germany. I will need to decide if it's better to go by train (my preference) or fly. And by better I mean for cost and time efficiency. What do you travel experts think?

We will probably go from Hannover to Cologne, likely by a relatives car. We will need to end up eventually in Frankfurt to fly home. To take a train from Cologne - Frankfurt is it more cost effective to buy advance train tickets, or can they be purchased for the same price on the day of travel?

Cheaper in advanced.

BTW, this is one of the fastest corridors on the Deutsche Bahn network. It's an amazing piece of engineering, considering that the terrain is anything but flat.

Thanks guys. Can tickets be purchased 90 days or 120 days in advance? I hate to commit too early because it's hard to pin my relatives down. It seems I will just have to get them to agree to a plan ahead of time or make an executive decision myself if they won't.
