Which of the 2 options should I choose? booking on Thalys website Paris Nord to Amsterdam Central $128.35 (I do not know how to get the time and costs for RER from CDG airport to Paris Nord) or booking from RailEurope Paris airport (CDG) to Amsterdam Central $196.45 total
The RER runs into Paris ( and Gare du Nord) about every 10-15 minutes, and it costs 9.50 euros. What dates are you looking at, its usually cheaper to book through Thalys. I paid 35 euros last year for my Amsterdam to Paris ticket but I booked far in advance.
Detailed information on using the RER can be found here: http://parisbytrain.com/charles-de-gaulle-airport-cdg-to-paris-by-train/ Those prices look very high. Even booking the Thalys in a couple of weeks time I can see prices as low as €51.
Thank you Pat and Kevin for the great information. We arrive Aug 8, 1pm CDG and plan to be in Amsterdam that first night. from your help I compare RER 9.5 Eur and Thalys $128.35 versus RailEurope CDG to Amsterdam Central- $196.45. If I am incorrect please let me know. Thanks again
oops- the Thalys quote is for 2 passengers. My bad
Ah, that makes sense then. $128 is €98, divide by 2 = €49, which is the price I can see on thalys.com on the 14.25 and 15.25 departures from Paris Nord, rising to €65 on the 17.25 and 19.25 departures. If you arrive CDG at 13.00 then I would have thought you are going to be pressed for time to catch that first train and quite likely the second. Someone was asking about time required to get through immigration at CDG in another thread. I'll see if I can find that. Yes, here: http://www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/helpline/index.cfm/rurl/topic/105568/plane-to-train.html Look at getting a Thalys to Brussels and changing there, to give you more options and departure times.
Kevin, thanks, I did buy the 17:25 train from Gare Nord to Amsterdam. your thread is a good endorsement to play it safe. Thanks again- I will study the RER link to be prepared.
