Train from Orvieto to Siena

We will be traveling to Siena on Easter Sunday. I understand we should take the regional train from Orvieto to Chiusi (change trains) and continue on to Siena...is this correct? Will there be a problem being a Holiday?

From Orvieto, you have little choice but to be on either an IC train or a Regionale train. Yes, you will change trains at Chiusi. I see 9 runs from Orvieto to Siena on April 24. On Sundays and holidays, long distance bus schedules are really reduced but there are usually a lot of train runs. Here's the link to the first five runs on 4/24. http://orario.trenitalia.com/b2c/nppPriceTravelSolutions.do?car=0&stazin=orvieto&stazout=siena&datag=24&datam=04&dataa=2011&timsh=06&stazin_r=Staz_DA&stazout_r=Staz_A&timsm=38&timsm_r=38&lang=en&nreq=5&channel=tcom&npag=1&lang_r=en&nreq_r=5&channel_r=tcom&npag_r=1&x=49&y=12

I have done as Larry explains (in March, 2009 and April 2010) and the trains are great. However, check and re-check schedules for your travel day, Easter Sunday, as I have found for this important day they are either crammed and a person has to wait for another train, or the fine print says something about Holiday Conditions and changes to hours, number of trains, etc. Once in-country I have always found the station staff most helpful. Failing that, tourist offices (all big cities and most towns) are of tremendous help as well, especially if your Italian is at a novice level. They usually have at least one employee on hand whose English is very good. With train & bus schedules on site they will explain everything and include valuable travel tips. They are also most up-to-date on what is closed, what is open with respect to major tourist attractions. I always make a point to ask (regarding my destination) whether they have heard of any last-minute changes to schedules, attractions, etc. and will sometimes call their colleague in the other town for the latest info. Watch, too, that your ticket matches the car you are boarding, whether First or Second class. Again, ask a conductor. I also can't help browsing their collection of Touring Club of Italy travel volumes, one of my favourite sources for in-country travel (check publication dates for the most current copy).
