I was wondering if members of this forum might know when tickets can be purchased for a train from Orta to Venice. We are part of the 14 day Italian Villages tour May 22 - June 4th 2017 which end in Orta San Giulio. We are planning on going to Venice for a few days after the trip. From what little research I have been able to do I need to go to Milan and then transfer. I just need to know how far in advance you can buy your tickets.

120 days for fast trains or up until schedule change dates, which are usually the second Saturday of December and June. So you should be able to book tickets for June 4 on Feb 4 at the soonest. Maybe a day or 2 later.
You may be able to get a Freccia train to Venice from Novara (with one change there), Otherwise it is a Regionale to Novara, then a Regionale to Milano Centrale, then a Freccia to Venice.
When we did the RS VI tour, there were so many tour members going to Milan from Orta San Giulio in order to catch a flight home or have after-tours adventures, it was easy for our tour director to simply put us in a hired van along with some of our new RS friends to help us get down to the Milan train station. I suspect your tour director will be able do the same for you. BTW, it's a fantastic tour. And our tour director was amazing. I almost regret we'll be elsewhere in Europe and won't be able to join you. Best wishes.
