Does anyone have experience using a train from their cruise ship docked in Nice to reach Montecarlo for a day exploration and then a train back to our ship at Nice port ?
I googled and this was the first result: Large ships bound for Villefranche anchor in the bay and passengers are transported by tender to a terminal in the centre of Villefranche-sur-Mer. Smaller ships stopping in Nice dock at the city's port (size limit 190 metres), which is a pleasant 30-minute walk away from the city centre.
You can take the train from Villefranche to Monaco. Expect it to be very crowded with other cruisers as well as locals and other tourists coming from Nice. It's a short walk, maybe 10 minutes from the harbor to the train station.
If you are on a small ship, you may be lucky and dock in Nice. It looks like ships dock at the Quai de Commerce. Google says it's 3.2 km, 40 minutes to walk to the train station. I think you could walk to the Garibaldi tram stop in less than 20 minutes, but I don't know that you'd save any time, just legs.
Hi! If you dock at Nice Port, you can probably walk to take the bus #100 from the top of the Nice Port. It stops beside a church there, and takes you directly into Monaco for one euro, fifty cents. Under two euro! It takes about 45 minutes and is stunningly beautiful. I took this with my mom summer 2018. Word of warning: there are some curvy roads if anyone is prone to motion sickness. We took photos of the sea and ports thru the bus window. Simply WOW! Enjoy! You can catch it back to Nice as well.
From the Quartier du port in Nice, it is approximately a 15 minute walk to Gare De Nice-Riquier, where you can catch a 20 minute train to Monaco. Alternatively, there are buses that make the same run in 10-11 minutes, the one seeming to be the most handy being the #20. So, allowing for some minor delays, call it a 45 minute trip from the port to Monaco.
