Train from Napoli to Puglia

Hello, Is it better to take the train? Or Fly from Napoli to Puglia?

Is there a speed train - Freccia Rossa from Napoli to Puglia?
Is there a lot to see on the train to Puglia?
Or would you rather fly? This would be in April.
As far as Ryanair Airlines is concerned- I am to sure they allow a lot of luggage?
Any feedback is very appreciated

Hi Laura,
Where in Puglia do you want to get to?
It’s a big area.
Last year we took the train from Naples to Bari, then onward via regional trains down into Puglia from there.
Look on Trenitalia, the site for trains into that region.
There are also smaller train companies to use within the region, once you decide where you want to get to for your first port of call.

RyanAir charges fees for virtually everything. The baggage fees vary by flight, but the entries at the bottom of this chart will give you an idea of what you're looking at:

We flew from Rome to Bari, a short, inexpensive flight, not on RyanAir, rather ITA.

There are high-speed trains like the Freccia Rossa that operate on some routes from Napoli to Puglia. They can significantly cut down the travel time compared to regular trains. However, you'll need to check the specific schedule and availability for your travel date in April as it might vary.

It depends on your overall travel plans and schedule.

Are you flying in to Naples from somewhere else? If so, maybe it makes more sense to take a flight since you’re already at the airport.

If you’re staying in Naples for a while before moving on to Puglia, maybe it makes more sense to take the train rather than go back to the airport, back thru check in and security, etc.

Where are you going in Puglia? As far as I know, flights go only to Bari and Brindisi. If you’re going somewhere else, you’ll need to factor in the time and effort for that part of the transport as well, and maybe it’s easier/faster to just take the train the whole way.

When we visited Puglia last year, we flew ITA from Rome to Bari, which worked for us because we were on our way directly from the US and already at the airport. We hired a private transfer from Bari to our lodgings in Trani.

On the way back, we took the train because we were staying in Rome before flying home. The train was far more efficient for that leg of the trip.
