I understand that an alternative to taking a limo from Naples train station (or to the Ferry to Sorrento) is to take the local Circumvesuviana Train and connect to a bus. The agent at RailEurope told me that you should get off the train at Meta (before Sorrento). Does anyone know about this bus connection, how much and the schedule? I understand the Circumvesuviana train is 3 Euros. How does this compare to taking a ferry to Sorrento the a bus to Positano?
Buses from Sorrento to Positano depart from in front of the Sorrento train station. Even if they make a stop in Meta enroute, your best chance of getting a seat (and especially one with a good view) is to catch the bus in Sorrento. Don't recall the exact cost, but it should be around 3-4 euro. The 2nd bus stop in Positano is closer to most hotels. It's also at the bottom of town; the 1st stop is clear at the top. Train to Sorrento is much more convenient, as the Circumvesuviana station is right below the Naples central station and buses depart from the Sorrento station. Using the ferry, you'd need to transfer between the stations and ferry docks on both ends.
